Dan Feidt (Co-Founder & Head of Product Design at Bunker) sat down with Christopher Parr (Director of Marketing for Bunker) and shared the details behind the history, design and launch of Bunker’s innovative office in the heart of Madison’s State Street:
A. I had a lot of help while we were building out the office. Matt Apter and Josh Rikkers from Cresa found us some really great options throughout Madison. We also toured some local Madison offices and found inspiration from companies like Abodo and EatStreet. Jeff Davis from Angus Young helped bring the entire vision to life and the Paras family who owns the building was very open to collaboration and allowed us to make the space feel like home.
A. The goal of the office was to find a balance of both collaborative open space and private areas for heads down work. It started as a big open room so we broke that up by having a large central conference room with a natural hardwood drop ceiling to soften it up a bit. There are also glass panels throughout the office to keep it open and let in natural light. It has been a great environment, you can see people working and hear problem solving happening around every corner.
The vision really came together after we were able to expand the office across the third floor earlier this year. We blew a hole through the wall into the next building, and created a connecting space with warm wood floors, comfortable living rooms and plenty of collaboration space. It created a really nice balance of modern open space, with a more comfortable studio environment right across the hall.
A. Being named one of the best places to work is a great shoutout to the company we’ve been building over the past three years. We have a really talented group of people working together and a space to make great things happen. We all hold a special place for Madison and it has been very rewarding to build and grow something here in the city.
